THUNDER BAY — Ontario Provincial Police have recognized the actions of two civilian staff in Thunder Bay who helped save the life of a person in distress.

OPP aren't providing details about what happened, out of respect for the individual involved, but they are crediting the efforts of Provincial Communications Centre operators Carrie Cava, who is the acting team lead, and Jodi-Lynne Steele.

Both women received commendations Monday from the office of OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique.

On August 13, 2020, the pair was on duty when a call for service came in to the communications centre in Thunder Bay.

According to the OPP, they were efficiently able to narrow down the location of the person who was in distress, and to highlight a route for responding officers to get to the scene.

"The quick actions of Cava and Steele directly contributed to saving the individual's life," police said in a statement.

Communications centre operators are the first point of contact between the public and the OPP, directly supporting frontline operations and the maintenance of officer and public safety.
