Two people hospitalized after Highway 102 collision

Occupants of an SUV that collided with a transport truck Saturday sustained serious injuries.

THUNDER BAY — Ontario Provincial Police say two people remain in hospital following a serious collision Saturday afternoon on Highway 102.

Both were occupants of an SUV that collided head-on with a transport truck near Townline Road.

A police spokesperson said today that one of the injured individuals sustained life-threatening injuries.

The collision forced the closure of the highway for almost eight hours between Mapleward Road and Sistonen's Corner.

OPP continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident.

It was one of two significant crashes on Highway 102 Saturday.

A second incident later in the day saw a transport truck go out of control, hit the ditch, and knock out various Tbaytel services to rural customers.

OPP issued a statement Saturday urging drivers to be more careful on the roads, especially during snowy conditions, after they were called to investigate multiple collisions.
