THUNDER BAY - Three more people were arrested and charged on Monday evening in connection to a drug-related shooting that left one man with serious injuries more than a week ago.
Police arrested Terry Allen Pelto, 32, and charged him with attempted murder, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and being in possession of a firearm despite being on three different weapon prohibition orders in connection to a shooting incident on Sunday, May 3.
In bail court on Tuesday, May 12, Jacob Daniel Wattie, 24, of Thunder Bay, Natalie Marie Salatino, 29, of Thunder Bay and Molly O’Brien, 29, of Peterborough appeared by video from the Thunder Bay Police Service Balmoral Street station and had a series of charges sworn in connected to the attempted murder investigation of Shane Keefe by Justice of the Peace Zelda N. Kitchekeesik.
Wattie faces a charge of attempted murder, possessing a firearm without a licence, using a firearm in a careless manner, possession of a firearm with the knowledge its possession is unauthorized, two breaches of probation and two counts of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.
Salatino’s charges include unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm with knowledge its possession is unauthorized and possession of a prohibited or restricted loaded firearm.
O’Brien stands charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm with knowledge its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited or restricted loaded firearm and a breach of probation.
The three new arrests also led to drug charges. All three accused are charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property not exceeding $5,000.
Provincial Crown attorney Heather Bracken requested detention pending bail hearing order for each of the accused to abstain from communicating directly or indirectly with each other and the victim.
Police were initially dispatched on May 3 after receiving reports of a man who had crashed a vehicle into a barricade on the hospital's property. Officers attended Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and found a man seriously injured on the hospital's property.
It was determined the man had sustained two gunshot wounds prior to his arrival at the hospital.
The next day, police arrested Pelto and stated the victim and accused were known to each other and the incident was targeted.
All four are expected to appear in Thunder Bay court later this week.
