Umbrella Medical Clinic closed until further notice

Clients of the Thunder Bay clinic were told 'we are uncertain if UMC will be re-opening.'

THUNDER BAY — Effective immediately, a city medical clinic that specializes in sexual health services is closed until further notice.

Clients have received an email stating "At this time, we are uncertain if UMC will be re-opening, however we will provide an update on February 16, 2024."

TBnewswatch reached out to the clinic for more information, but a spokesperson said Tuesday that updates will be issued on its website and in social media over the next few weeks.

A notice posted Monday said current clients or anyone who's had recent testing will be contacted about any necessary followup.

Clients receiving gender-affirming care should watch for an email from the clinic.

Any appointments at the clinic that are already booked through Feb. 9 are being honoured, and anyone requiring a prescription refill can contact the clinic prior to Feb. 7.

The announcement of the closure comes three weeks after the clinic announced it was suspending some of its services until further notice, but continuing to provide other services.

Umbrella Medical Clinic was founded in 2018 by the late Dr. Annabella Zawada.

The independent, privately-owned facility fills a gap in local health-care services by providing sexual health services and gender-affirming care for people of all genders and orientations.
