THUNDER BAY — A threat made against a north-side Thunder Bay high school prompted school board officials to issue a hold and secure.
In a post to social media Monday, the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board said a threat was made to St. Ignatius High School that morning. The board said because of that, the school went into a hold and secure.
A hold and secure is generally issued when there’s a threat in the general vicinity of a school but not inside. Students and staff are to remain indoors with the doors locked.
The board said it can’t comment further as it is now a police matter.
“The safety of our students and staff are our main concern,” the board wrote.
Around 11 a.m., the school board again posted to social media, and said the hold and secure was lifted.
“Thunder Bay police have identified and made contact with the individual involved, St. Ignatius is deemed safe,” the post said, adding that classes were to resume as usual and thanking the community for its cooperation.
A police spokesperson said he had no further information at the moment.
