UPDATE: Thunder Bay man charged after Thursday's hit and run

The incident claimed the life of a 25-year-old man who was walking near Simpson and Pruden streets just before midnight.

THUNDER BAY -- Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service have arrested a 58-year-old man after a fatal hit and run occurred on Jan. 25.

The incident claimed the life of a 25-year-old man who was walking near Simpson and Pruden streets just before midnight.

Officers with the primary response branch were dispatched to the area while Superior North EMS paramedics and firefighters with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue also responded.

The vehicle, which police described as a newer model silver or grey pick-up truck, had fled the scene before officers arrived.  

Emergency services took the injured man to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

As a result of the police investigation, a suspect was identified, located and arrested. Police also seized a vehicle.

Mario Ricci, 58, of Thunder Bay was charged with failure to stop at an accident resulting in death.

He appeared in court on Jan. 27 and has been released with conditions and a future date for a court appearance.

The Thunder Bay Police Service thanked numerous members of the public, citizens and businesses who assisted in this investigation.
