THUNDER BAY — The city's first official snowfall in the books shows that Community Clothing Assistance is significantly in need of specific items.
"Basically warm clothing, which includes jackets, mittens and boots specifically. A lot of clients [are] coming in expressing that urgent need," said Vishesh Nayyar, the program's new general manager.
Nayyar asks that donations be clean and in good condition.
"[Donations] should be basically washed, neat and clean because a lot of time we get the donations which are not neat and clean and ultimately we have to throw it out," Nayyar said.
"Clothing is something which is generally ignored by people since we think that its clothing is just a means to put something on and just go. But clothing, I think, is most important and especially in Thunder Bay, the reason being the temperature here can go down to -40."
Community Clothing Assistance donates upwards of 6,000 of clothing a month through partnerships across the city and liaises with over 150 social workers helping clients directly.
Clothing donations can be made directly to the program at 404 May St N.; monetary donations can be made through the program's website.
