THUNDER BAY - As the Thunder Bay Courthouse located on Brodie Street remains closed while repairs continue due to a fire in early October, the Ministry of the Attorney General approved the Valhalla Inn Hotel as an alternate site for some court proceedings.
Three Ontario Court of Justice courtrooms are operational at the Valhalla Inn Hotel at 1 Valhalla Inn Road, according to ministry spokesperson Brian Gray.
“All in-person trials involving persons who are in custody will take place at the Valhalla Inn,” a notice on the Ontario Court of Justice website reads. “Location details for all in-person trials will be provided by the trial coordinator and will be published in the weekly scheduling notices.”
As of Oct. 26, an Ontario Court of Justice courtroom has been operational at 101 Syndicate Avenue South in the Victoriaville Mall.
The Superior Court of Justice was moved temporarily to the Choice Hotel located at 277 Camelot Street.
Counter Service is operational temporarily at 189 Red River Road from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Other than trials and preliminary inquiries, court proceedings will continue to be conducted virtually or teleconference, Gray said.
There is no estimated reopening date for 125 Brodie Street North.
