Vanderwey skating with the best of the GTHL

Forward Mitchell Vanderwey will represent the Thunder Bay Kings in the GTHL's Under-18 ‘AAA’ All-Star Game in January.

THUNDER BAY — Mitch Vanderwey is excited to show off his skills and work ethic alongside the best players in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL).

The Thunder Bay Kings forward was picked for next month’s GTHL Under-18 ‘AAA’ All-Star Game.

U-18 AAA Kings Coach Bill Nicholl states that being picked is a huge honour.

“This is a high-level league with amazing players, and to be recognized as one of these players provides a lot of exposure,” Nicholl told Dougall Media. “Mitch has drawn interest from a few Ontario Hockey League (OHL) clubs this season and is coming off an awesome five-goal weekend [before the Christmas break].”

The Kings were represented last season by forward Peter Forester.

Vanderwey was doing homework when he learned of the news.

“I’m really honoured to represent my team at the game and be selected to this event,” Vanderway stated. “I would like to [give thanks to] my teammates, coaching staff, organization, teammates, parents and most importantly my parents Rick and Jennifer; They push me every day to be the best hockey player and human I can be. They have supported me my entire life, and [have] given me opportunities that other kids don’t [get]. For that, I’m forever grateful for them and I love you guys more than you’ll ever know.”

The game will happen on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 4 p.m.
