Vape shop owner helps driver after crash

THUNDER BAY – Emergency services responded after a vehicle crashed into a vape shop on the south end on Tuesday afternoon.

Gary McCoy, one of the owners of NWO Vape Co. on Euclid Avenue, said the collision happened at around 2:30 p.m.

“An elderly lady came from the front side of Wasabi from behind some vehicles that were already parked. She went to turn right into a parking spot and instead of hitting the brake, she hit the gas and came through our front door,” McCoy said.

He spoke to her, asking her to put the vehicle in park and turn it it off. He made sure she rolled up her window so any falling debris didn't get in the car.

“She was kind of stuck in her vehicle for the time being until the fire department showed up. (Firefighters) helped her get out her passenger door because she could not open the driver's door as it was wedged against the frame of the window,” he said.

McCoy said it seemed like the woman didn’t have any injuries. Emergency services arrived to make sure she was in good health.

It’s unclear if there will be any charges.

McCoy said the vape shop will remain open.

“The property manager is currently boarding up the front and then we are going to tape some signs to the boards that we are still open . . . we can still take orders out the back door essentially.”
