THUNDER BAY – Students and staff at St. Pius School escaped injury on Friday afternoon when a vehicle crashed into the east wing of the Clarkson Street facility.

Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board officials say the school suffered exterior damage in the incident, which occurred just before the second nutrition break.

The Grade 6 classroom was compromised and as a result all students were moved into the library and the gymnasium.

No one was hurt in the collision.

Structural engineers have been called in and board officials say they’ll continue to monitor the situation as it relates to the safety and welfare of students and staff.

The school is closed for the Christmas holidays until January.
