THUNDER BAY — Police have recovered a pickup truck that was stolen at gunpoint in Thunder Bay early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred in the 400 block of Memorial Avenue around 5:45 a.m.

Thunder Bay Police said a man approached the occupants of a parked orange 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel and brandished an apparent firearm.

The pickup had been observed by officers responding to the call, but the person driving it took off at a high rate of speed.

Police chose not to pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety, but it was subsequently involved in a collision with another vehicle, and was likely to have sustained some visible damage as a result.

Thunder Bay Police advised anyone spotting the vehicle to call 911 and refrain from engaging with the driver.

At 1:00 pm TBPS issued a news release announcing that the pickup had been recovered.

No other information was disclosed, and police said they were continuing to investigate the incident.
