THUNDER BAY — Three people used a sledgehammer to break in to the Hodder Greeks fast food restaurant on Highway 61 early Monday morning, but failed in their efforts to remove an ATM.
The incident occurred less than a month after thieves targeted the ATM at the Hodder Greeks outlet on High Street, hauling it out the back door and taking it away in a vehicle.
Security camera video from the Highway 61 location shows a cube van being backed up to the door and three individuals with covered faces exiting.
They entered the premises after one of them smashed the glass out of the door. While a member of the group removed the till from the cash register, the other two proceeded directly to the cash-dispensing machine, where they spent some time trying to rock it loose.
"They knew what they were going for. Maybe they scouted it out before," the owner says.
The ATM, however, was securely bolted to the floor, so the thieves were forced to leave without it.
The owner, who prefers not to have his name disclosed, wonders if the the perpetrators are the same ones involved in the ATM theft last month.
"Ours was very secure. Maybe they thought it was (going to be) easier to get out. I don't know."
He's posted video to Facebook, and says Thunder Bay Police are investigating.
