PASS LAKE, Ont. — Members of the church council of Salem Lutheran Church at Pass Lake have voted in favour of rebuilding the church that was razed to the ground by fire in June.
The proposition now goes before the full congregation for a final decision.
All members over 18 will be polled at a meeting scheduled for Aug. 22.
The cleanup of the site has been completed.
Curtis Jensen of Apple Wagon Films produced a video prior to the cleanup, which has been posted on YouTube.
Although the 90-year-old church and its attached hall were destroyed in the June 9 fire, members of the community were gratified to learn that documents dating back to the 1920s, contained in filing cabinets in the basement, survived the inferno.
They were the only written records capturing decades of life at Pass Lake, starting with the arrival of Danish immigrants in the early part of the last century.
