KITCHENUHMAYKOOSIB INNINUWUG FIRST NATION, Ont. — Some details have emerged about a mission to save a wounded hunter late last week near Big Trout Lake, 600 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.

The Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Rangers teamed up to extricate the man from a remote hunt camp.

He had apparently suffered an accidental gunshot wound in the shoulder.

A spokesperson at the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton, Ont. said search and rescue technicians parachuted to the camp site Thursday night from an RCAF Hercules aircraft.

Video posted to Facebook shows the technicians touching down to provide initial treatment.

Members of the Canadian Rangers–part-time army reservists–also arrived by snowmobile to clear a landing zone for a private helicopter which airlifted the patient to the community.

He was later flown to Winnipeg for treatment.

The Rangers transported the remaining hunters to safety.
