THUNDER BAY – Garren Voisey picked a pretty good time to get his offensive juices flowing.
The Thunder Bay North Stars defenceman scored the game-winner Thursday night with just under nine minutes to go in the third, delivering a 3-2 road win for his team over the Red Lake Miners in the Stars first post-Christmas contest.
The goal was the first of the year for the Nunavut-born blue-liner.
It capped a three-goal comeback for the visitors, who trailed the Miners 2-0 until late in the second.
Ty Woodard had the only goal of the opening period for Red Lake, beating Keenan Marks at 13:57 of the first. Luke Decorby doubled the Miners lead at 8:11 of the first, but it was all Thunder Bay from that point on.
Dimitri Trahiiotis cut the Red Lake lead in half at 13:26 of the second and Nolan Desjardins netted the equalizer at 4:15 of the third, beating Red Lake goaltender Jack Osmond.
Marks made 35 saves to pick up the win, the fifth-place North Stars (12-8-3) ending a two-game slide with the win. Osmond was good on 56 of 59 shots fired his direction.
The Stars head to Dryden for a pair on Friday and Saturday night, while Red Lake remains at home to host the Wisconsin Lumberjacks.
