THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay’s Vox Popular Media Arts Festival has released the full roster of films for this year’s mostly-virtual event. Films will be offered free online from Sept. 10 to 20, along with live-streamed concerts and Q&A sessions with filmmakers.

The popular event formerly known as the Bay Street Film Festival moved to the online format due to COVID-19.

A full list of the more than 50 films on offer is now available at Vox Popular’s website.

That includes 30 Canadian films, with 10 made in northern Ontario, as well as international releases from Korea, Iran, the United States, United Kingdom, Senegal, and more.

The picks are organized around four themes: identity, awareness, dramatis personae, and experimental.

Organizers are looking to provide a virtual film fest atmosphere with live-streamed Q&A sessions with filmmakers and concerts featuring local artists like Jean-Paul de Roover and Danielle Pollari. Those will be announced and streamed on the festival’s Facebook page.

Not everything is going virtual, however: the festival kicks off with a live, drive-in theatre showing at the Intercity Shopping Centre, put on in partnership with Interstellar Outdoor Cinema. The Sept. 10 event will feature the film 5 Bucks at the Door, about local music venue Crocks and Rolls, along with two short films.

Tickets can be purchased at Interstellar’s website.
