THUNDER BAY — A big weekend has been planned for the Fort William Historical Park's annual Voyageur Winter Carnival.
While the weather has been mild, officials at the park are adapting and will still provide a lot of popular events on Saturday and Sunday.
Emily Carr, communications officer at Fort William Historical Park (FWHP), said there's so much for everyone to enjoy.
"There will be musket firing with the Canadian Corps Voyagers. I know some people are going to say, 'Oh, but it's been so warm, what kind of activities are we missing out on?' Unfortunately, there's no large tubing hill this year, but we have a kid sliding hill, so a little smaller but even more fun."
Carr said while there's no snow maze, there are Zorb balls that people can climb into and roll around in the farm fields instead.
It wasn't too difficult for FWHP to shift its mainstay activities for the weekend event, Carr said.
"By December we know how the weather has acted and start making plans. That way, we already know if we can build a snow maze or not just because it takes a few months and a lot of snow.
"We had to make the decision to switch to Zorbing pretty early on. If the weather picks up and we get more snow, we might be able to add back in activities like snowshoeing."
