Warmer weather coming this week

Above-zero temperatures could arrive as soon as Boxing Day, according to Environment Canada.

THUNDER BAY – The deep freeze that settled in over Thunder Bay appears to about ready to move on.

According to data at Environment Canada, Sunday’s high is expected to climb to -4 C, with a low of -9 C overnight.

On Monday and Tuesday the mercury will reach -3 C, and then on Christmas Day it will hit the freezing point and on Boxing Day the high is forecast to be 1 C.

Temperatures could reach as high as 3 C on Friday.

There’s a 60 per cent chance of flurries on Sunday, but no further snow in the mix between now and next weekend.

The record high for December, according to extremeweatherwatch.com, was set last year on Dec. 14, when it reached 13.7 C. The lowest temperature recorded was -39.6 C on Dec. 31, 2013. 

Last year December set an all-time record with an average high temperature of 2.4 C.
