Waterfront bus terminal reopens Thursday

THUNDER BAY — For the first time in over six months Thunder Bay Transit passengers will be able to shelter inside the waterfront bus terminal, starting Thursday.

The terminal was closed when the COVID-19 pandemic was declared.

Due to ongoing restrictions related to the pandemic, occupancy will be limited to a maximum of 16 people at one time.

Face masks or coverings are mandatory inside the terminal, and passengers are required to maintain physical distancing of two metres from each other.

Thunder Bay Transit has also announced some schedule changes.

As of Thursday, the # 8 James route will be extended in order to provide service between Confederation College and Intercity Shopping Centre:

  • Monday to Saturday - 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on a 40-45 minute frequency
  • Sunday - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on a 40-45 minute frequency

The # 9 Junot route will be extended to provide service between Lakehead University and Intercity Shopping Centre:

  • Monday to Saturday - 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on a 40-45 minute frequency
  • Sunday - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on a 40-45 minute frequency

Transit says the changes will be in effect until further notice "to best meet fluctuating ridership levels and customer demands."
