THUNDER BAY — The splash pad at Prince Arthur’s Landing has closed several days earlier than planned, after a piece of equipment failed.

The popular waterfront attraction has been shut down after its main filter pump broke down, the city reported Tuesday.

The failure will have only a small impact – the splash was slated to close for the summer season in just a few days, on Sept. 17.

Other city splash pads at County Park and the Northwood Playfield will remain open until Sept. 17, while the Franklin Street Park and North End Park splash pads are already closed for the season.

Residents can find more information at the city’s website.

Repairs to the filter pump are expected to take about three weeks.

The site is expected to reopen as an ice rink on Dec. 1, the city said.

The Water Garden Pavilion at the waterfront will remain open until mid-October, meanwhile, operating daily from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
