THUNDER BAY – The Westfort Street Fair was in full swing Saturday and drew in hundreds of city residents.
The Westfort Stret Fair is the longest-running event of its kind in Thunder Bay and is celebrating its 41st year of summer fun.
“We are blessed to have another fantastic day for the street fair, we have an awesome crowd. There's lots of people have been out already and we're expecting more throughout the day,” said Mark Nowak, street fair coordinator.
“There's tons of activities, lots of great food entertainment, as you can see behind us, our new entertainment area sponsored by Heartbeat hot sauce.
The event had roughly 75 vendors from informational booths to local businesses selling their products and food.
Nowak said that the connections the community gets to make with local businesses in Westfort as well as the Westfort Village, is the entire reason behind the fair.
“This is a real community event, we do have a lot of people who would live in the area, who have lived in the area, I know I've personally have friends who have come from Manitoba and from Southern Ontario just to attend this event,” he said.
“So there's a real sense of of community, of Westward community and and people really get back to their roots.”
Even with all the food and products available to peruse, Nowak said the biggest draw for people year after year seems to be the community atmosphere.
“It's just the people. The people are friendly, very friendly atmosphere, you know, everybody knows somebody it seems,” he said.
“So there's a lot of people greeting each other and you know, lots of hugs and handshakes and it’s just a real sense of togetherness and community.”
The event was a one-day-only special and for those who missed out on the chance to attend, keep an eye out on social media for detail on next year’s fair.
