THUNDER BAY - Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute was placed under a hold and secure following a threat directed at the school.
The Lakehead Public School Board issued a brief statement on social media that reads: “Westgate Collegiate and Vocational Institute is currently under a hold and secure due to a threat. As a precaution, Agnew H. Johnston Public School, Edgewater Park Public School, Kingsway Park Public School and Westmount Public School are currently under a hold and secure. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.”
They later said the hold and secure had been lifted.
According to a media release issued by the Thunder Bay Police Service, officers were dispatched to the school at approximately 11:30 a.m. after students reported seeing a disturbing post on social media.
The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board also placed all south side schools, excluding St. Jude, under a hold and secure, as well as the Catholic Education Centre, but it has since been lifted.
Police are at the school and the threat is being investigated. Updates will be provided as they become available.
