Sports: 

Mark your calendars for Sept. 9 for Northern Ontario’s premiere mountain bike event. The Shuniah Forty Miner Presented by Tbaytel is a two-day celebration of Thunder Bay’s mountain biking trails located at Kinsmen Park in the beautiful Trowbridge Forest. The feature event is an XC Marathon mountain bike race. The course will feature a 12 km loop that will be repeated several times depending on which race you register for. Categories include a 12km, 24km, 48km, and a 5km mini-miner race for the youth. 

Markets: 

The Thunder Bay Country Market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition: 425 Northern Ave. head on down to buy local groceries, crafts, and gifts from the talented, hard-working local people who created them.    

The Peddlers Pop-up Market is happening at the hub Bazaar on Victoria Ave East from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The hub Bazaar is a business incubator with anchor vendors and pop-up peddlers every Saturday! There's a cafe, eatery and even a museum!    

Visit Northern Nature Trading, a special kind of swap shop!  Bring in items you've found in nature and trade them for things in the collection. You can trade things made by nature like rocks, shells, fossils and pine cones. Trading is based on points; you are awarded points for what you know about your item, what makes it different from similar ones and the quality (clean, good condition). Festivals: 

The annual Vox Popular Media Arts Festival is back! From Sept. 7 to Sept. 10, head down to the Definitely Superior Art Gallery (Def Sup), 115 Cumberland St. N. for local, regional and international films, live performances, visual arts, and workshops! Get your Geek on Thunder Bay! Head down to the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition for ThunderCon 2023 and check out all of the guests, vendors, panels, gaming, and other fun activities at this year's event. Featuring Larry Hama, creator of GI Joe, Stacey Mistysyn and Pat Mastroianni of Degrassi fame, C. Andrew Nelson, actor, VFX, game designer and more, Patrick Kwok-Choon from StarTrek Discovery and Skymed, The Klingon Pop Warrior, Alex Zahara, voice and sci-fi actor. Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

From Sept. 8 to Sept. 10 the Francophone Center of Thunder Bay will light up in the colors of the Franco-festival. This year, the event promises to be more spectacular than ever - 3 days of performances, great food, and activities for the whole family. Soirée dansante and Matinée Cinéma: École Secondaire Catholique de la Vérendrye, 175 High St North from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

Live Music: 

Enjoy a musical celebration of America’s first “Teen Idol”, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ricky Nelson emerged from “The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet” to establish himself as one of the most important rock artists and influential musicians of the last 50 years, selling over 140 million recordings. The Nelson Family Legacy continues as Ricky’s twins Matthew and Gunnar Nelson present an interactive, multi-media rock & roll concert experience, taking the audience on a musical journey down memory lane. 7:30 p.m. at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium. 

Wiggins Productions proudly presents: THUNDERCON DRAG SHOW: The Official After Party of ThunderCon 2023. The event is at Black Pirates Pub (215 Red River Road) Doors open at 9 p.m. and the show starts at 10 p.m. 19+ (valid ID required) CATEGORY IS: Freaks & Geeks! COSPLAY & DRESS UP HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!
