White River woman dies, 2 paramedics injured in ambulance/snowplow collision

WHITE RIVER, Ont. — One person died and two other people were injured Sunday in a collision on Highway 17 between an ambulance and a snowplow truck.

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the deceased as a 68-year-old woman from White River.

She was a passenger in the ambulance.

The name of the victim, who died at the scene, is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

One paramedic suffered life-threatening injuries while another paramedic sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The plow operator was not hurt.

The collision occurred at about 11 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 519, approximately 40 kilometres north of Wawa.

Both vehicles were southbound at the time.

Highway 17 between White River and Wawa was closed in both directions until OPP cleared the scene.

The police investigation continues.
