THUNDER BAY — More than $68,000 for was raised through this year’s Winederful event.
Held on Dec. 18, Halfway Motors hosted the annual fundraiser in support of Our Kids Count and, new this year, the Ronald McDonald House in London, Ont.
Our Kids Count is getting just over $46,300 from the fundraiser, roughly $12,200 over last year's fundraising total. The local charity runs family-focused programming such as community kitchens, parenting and life skills workshops, pre/post-natal support, an emergency food cupboard and counselling.
An additional $21,700 was raised for the London Ronald McDonald House, which is used by Northwestern Ontario families, when travelling with children for medical appointments. Those funds were raised though a special auction on behalf of the family of Riley Matthews.
Matthews as well as other local racing drivers, Cole Chernosky, Kolby Reed, Tanner Henderson and Nathan Henny, donated door panels from their race cars to be auctioned off, bringing in $11,700, with Half-Way Motors Group donating the additional $10,000.
