Wolves edge Varsity Blues, keep playoff hopes alive

Ally Burke's 14 points help the Thunderwolves say alive in the postseason chase.

THUNDER BAY – A third-quarter surge helped propel the Lakehead Thunderwolves women’s basketball team to its fourth win of 2024-25.

The Wolves (4-15) outscored the one-win Toronto Varsity Blues 18-10 coming out of the half, and went on to secure a 52-47 win at the Thunderome.

Ally Burke had 14 points to lead the way offensively for LU, hitting 3-of-9 from beyond the arc.

Eva Guilera added 10 and grabbed six rebounds and Sidney Crawford had seen off the bench.

Alex Jaglall had 11 to lead the Varsity Blues (1-18).

Lakehead’s win keeps their playoff hopes alive. With three games remaining they are currently in 15th place, but will need to win out and need some help along the way.

The two teams play again on Saturday night. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
