THUNDER BAY — Firefighters had to perform a water rescue at a floodway in the city.

Just after midnight on Monday, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a water rescue call on the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway.

Two pumpers and the platoon chief responded to find a large crowd gathered at the scene.

There were multiple reports that a person had entered the river but had not returned to shore.

Firefighters wearing immersion suits and life jackets quickly entered the water and located a woman clinging to the bridge.

Crews swiftly secured the female and ensured her safety by supplying her with a life jacket.

Accompanied by firefighters, the woman was brought to shore where she was attended to by paramedics.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue would like to remind citizens to be cautious when in the vicinity of waterways.

Rescue measures are not in place, shorelines can be unpredictable, and water conditions can change rapidly, said a news release issued by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.
