UPDATE: Woodcrest Public School to reopen after threat

Board says police have indicated no imminent credible threat remains, though officers will be at the school on Thursday.

THUNDER BAY – Woodcrest Public School was closed on Wednesday after a threat was made to the school community, but Lakehead Public Schools says it plans to reopen the school on Thursday. 

Lakehead Public Schools, in a statement to Dougall Media, said the decision to close the school was made after discussions with Thunder Bay Police, who investigated and determined there was no imminent credible threat tot he Woodcrest school community. 

The closure included the Woodcrest Child Care Centre.

“While the investigation remains ongoing, Lakehead Public Schools has decided to open the school and Woodcrest Child Care Centre on December 12, 2024. As a precautionary measure, members of the Thunder Bay Police will be on-site at the school tomorrow morning," a spokesperson for the board said in an emailed statement. 

"We appreciate your patience and understanding as the investigation continues. As always, the safety of the entire school community remains our top priority at this time."

The nature of the threat was not revealed.
