THUNDER BAY — The bridge on Woodcrest Road will stay closed into the summer.
Due to deterioration, the City of Thunder Bay temporarily closed the bridge, which is south of John Street Road, on Jan. 18.
At the time, it said significant deterioration had occurred in some parts of the bridge since the previous inspection in 2020.
An engineering assessment has now determined that the structure is unsafe to use and must remain closed until it can be replaced.
That's scheduled to happen this summer, pending city council's approval of the budget for the project.
Businesses on Woodcrest Road will remain open.
A posted detour continues to be available at Goods Road, off Belrose Road.
