THUNDER BAY — Stones will be sliding along the ice a little later than scheduled this season at the Port Arthur Curling Centre.
An issue with an overhead beam forced the club to postpone play until Oct. 16, a delay of one week.
Centre president Kelly Latoski said Wednesday that "an inspection by an engineer discovered that one of the beams requires some work."
Latoski was unable to provide details, but said she expected to have an update by Thursday.
In February 2019, play was temporarily halted in the curling club after a structural beam was found to have shifted over the eighth sheet near the east wall.
Curling resumed on the other seven sheets after a support was installed to reinforce the beam.
The club, formed in 1888, was rebranded the Port Arthur Curling Centre earlier this year, when Latoski was named the first-ever woman president.
The board of directors also announced a commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
