THUNDER BAY – Max Wright rebounded in a big way.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves netminder, who gave up five goals on 12 shots in a 5-1 loss the night before, on Friday stopped all 20 shots he faced, helping the Wolves snap a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 road win over the Guelph Gryphons.

Joe Mack, in the first, and Tyler Ho, in the third, scored the T-Wolves goal, the win boosting LU’s playoff hopes.

It was the second shutout of the season for Wright, thrust into the starting role prior to the Christmas break after starter Christian Cicigoi went down with an ankle injury.

Lakehead improved to 10-12-1 and sit a point behind Windsor (11-9-1), who edged Waterloo 3-2 in overtime, and Guelph (11-13-0).

Lakehead is back on the road next weekend, traveling to the nation’s capital for games against Ottawa and Carleton.
