THUNDER BAY — If you have studded tires for your car or truck, and still haven't switched over to summer tires, you could be fined.
Studded tires are allowed on vehicles registered in Northern Ontario, but may only be used from Sept. 1 to May 31.
Motorists who missed Tuesday's deadline risk getting a fine of $85, plus court costs and a victim surcharge, for a total penalty of $110.
Studded tires provide superior grip on ice and hard-packed snow, but on dry or wet roads stopping distance may be increased, and pavement markings can be damaged.
