THUNDER BAY – Dozens of people of all ages were eager to jump on Chippewa Park’s rides for the first time this year when the park opened on Sunday.
Harold Sault attended the park alongside his niece and nephew.
“We just happened to be driving by and everything is on.”
“There seems to be lots of kids enjoying the rides here, and it looks like they have cleaned it up,” he said.
“They are over there, still having fun and running around,” Sault added.
Layla and Easton, Sault’s niece and nephew, were thoroughly enjoying the rides.
The two agreed on bumper cars as their favourite ride, and mentioned that they had visited Chippewa Park twice prior to Sunday.
Chippewa Park has been the home of amusement rides since the early 1920s.
Hannah and Ella, along with their dad, love coming out to Chippewa each year.
“I used to come down here for baseball practice. It’s nice to come back.”
“It’s awesome to see the carousel fixed up from back in the day.”
Hannah and Ella really enjoyed riding the tilt-a-whirl, naming it their favourite ride.
Alexander Dewy DePerry, mentioned just how cool Chippewa Park is.
“It’s been here for so many years. It’s a long time, I just love it.”
Isla and her neighbour, Hadley attended the park accompanied by Isla’s dad.
The two also agreed on the tilt-a-whirl as the best ride in their opinion.
Isla said it was super cool that she can go on rides that her dad used to go on as a child.
Small riders can choose between tanks, planes and boats to ride. Meanwhile large riders can ride the tilt-a-whirl and bumper cars.
For one book, or 30 coupons it cost $27. For small riders, two coupons cost $2.50. For large riders the cost is $5 for four coupons.
Rides at Chippewa Park currently run on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. however, starting July 3 rides will begin weekday operation. Sept. 2 is the last day for rides.
