THUNDER BAY – In 1968, guitarist Billy Gibbons and his band, Moving Sidewalks, opened for rock icon Jimi Hendrix.
A year later Gibbons, Frank Beard and Dusty Hill formed ZZ Top and five decades later, the southern rockers are still going strong.
Best known for a string of hits in the video age of the ‘80s, including Legs, Sharp Dressed Man and Gimme All Your Lovin’, ZZ Top has been described as one of the hardest working bands in business today. They're also the world's longest-running band with no personnel changes.
Hitting the road to celebrate their 50th anniversary, the trio is bringing their show to the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium on May 13.
It’s the first time ZZ Top, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 by Keith Richards, has been in the city since 2010.
Tickets go on sale on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Community Auditorium box office, online at www.tbca.com, or by phone at 684-4444.
