Driedger hat trick sinks North Stars at home

THUNDER BAY -- Jamie Driedger netted a hat trick Friday night to lead the visiting English River Miners past the Thunder Bay North Stars.

Driedger scored twice in the second, the Miners breaking opening a 1-1 game after 20 minutes at Fort William Gardens to take a 4-2 lead into the third.

Zac Schlitt also found the back of the net behind replacement goalie Jordan Elliott, who took over early in the second after starter Nathaniel Dupuis allowed two goals in the opening 2:42. Driedger completed his hat trick with 1:37 left in the third.

Brendan Gillis and Troy Sherman scored for Thunder Bay (14-5-2), who lost out on a chance to vault past and into top spot in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

Dryden (14-3-3) fell 6-5 to Fort Frances on Friday night, Dylan Kooner scoring three times for the victorious side.
