Jacobs opens Northern Ontario championship with easy win

Defending champions roll to 7-2 win in provincial opener.

THUNDER BAY – Six-time champion Brad Jacobs is off to a quick start at the 2017 Travelers Men’s Provincial curling championship.

The Sault Ste. Marie skip on Wednesday made easy work of New Liskeard’s Ryan Sayer, stealing a single in the sixth and two more in the seventh to open the event with a 7-2.

Jacobs, the defending Olympic champion, also snagged a steal in the third end, after opening the scoring with a single in the first.

The two sides shook hands after eight ends.

In other action, Sudbury's Jordan Chandler edged city-mate Tanner Horgan 6-5. Thunder Bay's Bryan Burgess, who raced out to a 4-0 lead over nine-time provincial champion Al Hackner, downed his veteran oppoenent 7-4. Thunder Bay skip Dylan Johnston opened with a 6-5 win over Sudbury's Chris Glibota.

Draw 2 is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
