THUNDER BAY – The OUA playoffs are one-step closer for the Lakehead Thunderewolves women's basketball team.
The Wolves, who took to the road on Friday night, held the host Toronto Varsity Blues to just 15 points in the first half and went on to capture a 69-50 decision.
The win gives Lakehead (6-11) a four-point cushion in the OUA playoff race, which sees the top three teams in each division and the next three best records move on to post-season play.
Sofia Lluch continued her hot play of late, leading the way with 18 points and completing the double-double with 11 rebounds.
Nikki Ylagan buried four three-pointers on her way to a 16-point night and Lily Gruber-Schulz finished with 14.
Nadia Radonjic topped Toronto with 17 points and 10 boards, the lone Varsity Blue in double digits.
Toronto (3-14) slipped six points behind Lakehead, winners of three in a row. It was Toronto's fourth-straight defeat.
The two teams tangle again on Saturday night.
