NIPIGON – There’s still a little housekeeping to take care of before the playoffs are set at the Northern Ontario Curling Championships in Nipigon.

Things are set on the men’s side.

Thunder Bay’s Mike McCarville held off a hard-charging Trevor Bonot in Saturday night’s tiebreaker, eking his way into Sunday’s semifinal match against former Olympian Brad Jacobs with a 6-5 win.

McCarville stole a pair in the eighth to go up 6-2, only to have Bonot roar back with three of his own in the ninth to close the gap to one.

The women’s tiebreaker will be decided on Sunday morning.

The prize is one last shot at six-time provincial champion Krista McCarville, who completed a perfect 6-0 romp through the round robin with a 9-3 win over Sudbury’s Kira Brunton.

Brunton, who dropped to 3-3, will take on Thunder Bay’s Jenna Enge for the right to play McCarville, downing winless Hailey Beaudry 9-3.

Both the tiebreaker and the men’s semifinal are slated for 8:30 a.m.
