SYDNEY, N.S. – The team from Northern Ontario scored a huge win Thursday night at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Skip Krista McCarville led her foursome to a 7-5 win over wild-card entry Casey Scheidegger and sits at 6-3, tied for fourth spot with Scheidegger and P.E.I.’s Suzanne Birt.

Scheidegger took an early 2-0 lead with hammer in the second end, but McCarville cut the lead in half in the third, then stole three in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take control of the match. The Thunder Bay squad added one more in the ninth.

Team McCarville, which also includes lead Sarah Potts, second Jen Gates and third Kendra Lilly, face Jennifer Jones’ Team Canada squad on Friday afternoon in Sydney, N.S., a 5-4 team in must-win territory if it hopes to repeat as champions and grab Jones a record seventh Scotties Tournament of Hearts title. She’ll wrap up the championship round against P.E.I. on Friday night.

Earlier on Thursday she dropped an 11-5 decision to Saskatchewan.

Should McCarville win both her matches, she would clinch a spot on the Page playoffs.
