THUNDER BAY -- Mike McCarville and Gary Weiss came up winners in draw six of the Tbaytel Major League of Curling to remain tied atop of the standing after Wednesday night's action at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
McCarville knocked off his teammate from last year Colin Koivula to improve to 5-1 with a 6-1 victory. McCarville hit the board first with two in the second end and then stole two more in the third end to take control of the game.
Team Weiss had to go down to the final end to run their record to 6-1 scoring a 6-4 decision over the Al Hackner rink skipped by Trevor Bonot. Team Weiss cracked a three ender in the eighth to secure their first place ranking.
Meanwhile, the Ben Mikkelsen rink who went into the night in a three-way tie for first place fell to Mike Pozihun 5-1. Pozihun's senior squad posted a four straight win and are now tied for third place at 4-2 with Mikkelsen. Hackner and Koivula are one game back tied for fifth at 3-3.
Team Krista McCarville got back on the winning track icing the Al Macsemchuk foursome 9-2 in six ends. The win by McCarville and the loss by Mascemchuk left the two rinks 2-4 records.
In the night's other game, the Larissa Mikkelesen foursome found the win column knocking off one of their women's rival Hailey Beaudry 7-5. Mikkelsen got the early jump going up 7-1 and then held on to improve to 1-5. The loss left Beaudry also at 1-5 in the league basement with Mikkelsen.
Draw seven in the local competitive league this coming Wednesday will be a late draw at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
