THUNDER BAY -- Mike McCarville delivered an 8-2 win against Krista McCarville in a showdown of undefeated rinks to remain one of three undefeated rinks after Draw 2 action of the Tbaytel Major League of Curling Wednesday night at the Port Arthur Curling Club,
Colin Koivula and Gary Weiss kept pace with Mike McCarville to move to the top of the standings at 2-0 as Koivula iced Hailey Beaudry 9-4 and Weiss outscored Ben Mikkelsen 7-5.
The night's other games saw Al Hackner make quick work of Mike Pozihun 8-1 in only three ends, while Al Macsemchuk needed an extra end to edge Larissa Mikkelsen 5-4.
Mike McCarville won the skipping battle against his wife Krista as his supporting cast of Jordan Potter, Zach Warkentin and Travis Potter used the big end to jump out to an early 4-1 edge after three ends as they scored three in the second end followed by a steal in the third. The game ended with a four by Mike McCarville in the sixth end bringing out the handshakes.
Colin Koivula and his foursome of Brennan Wark, Jordan Potts and Mark Adams also used the big end to run up their lopsided win over Beaudry. Koivula scored three in the second end and a four in the fourth end for seven of their nine points on the night.
The Gary Weiss squad of Deron Surkan, Aaron Rogalski and Mark Beazley had a tougher test to post their second win. In another battle of undefeated rinks, Weiss used back-to-back steals of two in the fourth and fifth ends enroute holding off Ben Mikkelsen.
In the other two games, Al Hackner cracked a steal of five in the third end to make quick work of Pozihun in three ends. Meanwhile Macsemchuk stole the extra end against Larissa Mikkelsen after forcing overtime with a draw to four foot in eight end.
Macsemchuk, Hackner, Ben Mikkelsen and Krista McCarville sit with 1-1 records, while three rinks Beaudry, Pozihun and Larissa Mikkelsen are winless at 0-2.
Draw 3 of the Tbaytel Major League of Curling resumes with a 9 p.m. draw next Wednesday at the Port Arthur Curling Club.
