THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Three members of the Superior International Junior Hockey League will be in Leduc, Alta., Dec. 5-8 taking part in the Canada West selection camp to help formulate their roster for the World Junior A Challenge Dec. 11-17 in Bonnyville, Alta.
Dryden GM Ice Dogs forward Braedyn Aubin along with English River Miners goaltender Spencer Eschyschyn will be among 60 hopefuls vying for a roster spot on Canada West while English River head coach and general manager Derek Sweet-Coulter has been invited as a selection camp guest coach for a second straight year.
In 18 games the 18-year-old Aubin, who hails from Woodstock, Ont., has amassed 22 points on six goals and 16 assists for Dryden so far this season.
Eschyschyn meanwhile has gone 7-2-1-0 for the Miners so far in 2016-17 as the 18-year-old Kamloops, B.C. native is in his rookie season in the SIJHL.
Team Canada West is selected from among the league’s five western Junior A leagues: the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), and Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL).
