A no-doubt-about-it, three-run homerun that came off the bat of Kevin Taylor and soared over the rightfield fence at Port Arthur Stadium sent the Border Cats to a 5-2 victory over rival Duluth Huskies Wednesday night.
Taylor broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth with his fourth homerun of the season to the delight of about 850 fans. The win improves the Cats record to 12-14.
The home run wasn’t the first-baseman’s only production for the night. Taylor went 3-4, nabbed a pair of doubles and an RBI single.
Ino Patron had two doubles for the night, but it was his defensive efforts in left field that led to a standing ovations. The fan-favourite crashed into the fence hard to make a difficult catch that easily robbed the Huskies of two bases.
Leadoff batter and shortstop Brett Kay also showed off extra base power with a pair of doubles.
Taylor Bratton (4-2) picked up the win. He went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out five.
The Cats head are now heading into a five-game road trip. They will face the St. Cloud River Bats Thursday at 8:05 p.m.
