THUNDER BAY – Wrestler Vampiro is calling it a career.

The Thunder Bay athlete late last month announced on his Facebook page he was retiring from the ring, promising at least one final match before walking away.

“I have a few people to talk to about it and that will determine the how and when I will have (the) last match, or some good-bye matches,” he said via social media.

“It’s time and I wanna continue to focus on teaching Krav Maga and other things.”

Vampiro, whose real name is Ian Hodgkinson, is best known for his time with World Championship Wrestling. He's been semi-retired for several years.

He was the WCW tag team champion with the Great Muta.

The 50-year-old former WWC universal heavyweight champion was also a star in Mexico, where he continues to work in various capacities for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.

Hodgkinson returned home in recent years to found the local Guardian Angels chapter, but has returned to Mexico City where he heads the organization’s chapter.
