It is with great sadness that the family of Alain (Timmy) Fortier announce his sudden passing on April 26, 2021 at the age of 62.
Alain was born in Timmins, Ontario and lived his early childhood mostly in Quebec
before moving to Dorion with his family in 1971. There he attended Dorion Public School and Nip Rock High before starting a lifelong career in the logging industry.
He started out working with his dad, Maurice and later obtained his own District cutting license and formed his own company, Alain Fortier Logging. Through many hours of hard work he managed to build a successful business working under the Forest Management Company, Greenmantle Forest Inc.
Over the years Alain, working mainly with his nephew Darrell Fortier and Ray Niivila, helped supply local mills with wood and delivered many loads of firewood to people in the area. He enjoyed all the people he met throughout his years of logging and was a good neighbour and friend to many, always more than willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Alain was a great husband and father. He was a loving partner and best friend to his wife Karen for almost 40 years. He loved and was very proud of his 3 boys, Dennis, David and Cory and they adored their dad. (Gibson and Cat were two favorite nicknames that his boys gave him and he in turn had nicknames for everyone as this was a specialty of his). Having an awesome sense of humour, he never took life too seriously so there was always a great amount of joking and laughter in his home.
He was thrilled when his family grew to include his lovely daughters-in-law, Paige and Jen and he was blessed with 2 wonderful grandkids, Bryce and Kate. He loved surprising them with treats and watching their smiles. They will miss their Grandpa so much.
He was a loyal (sometimes mad) Montreal Canadians fan and made sure he passed this on to his sons. He managed to win several cases of OV over the years from Cal and Wyatt when his team won.
Alain loved and cherished all his family and was very close to his Mom and Dad, sisters, brothers and their families as well as his family on Karen’s side. He always looked forward to the many family get-togethers over the years which were full of fun and a chance to hang out and catch up with the guys. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family when time permitted and he looked forward to the weekly dump run and going for coffee on Sunday afternoons with his dad. He recently bought himself the car of his dreams, a red Camaro. He took it out the day before he died and treated his dad to a ride and later his wife explaining to her how he thought his car was even better than a new boat so that says it all. In recent years Alain discovered Facebook and he thought it was so neat to be able to connect with friends and cousins and share funny posts (sometimes at odd hours). His Facebook friends will miss him dearly.
Predeceased by his beloved son Dennis in 2016, parents-in-law Ethel and Dewar, sister-in-law Glenda, brothers-in-law, Murray and Mike and nephew Ryan.
Alain is survived by his wife Karen, son David (Jen) of Calgary AB, son Cory (Paige) and grandkids Bryce and Kate of Red Rock, his parents Maurice and Therese, sisters Diane (Doug), Lise (Calvin), Linda (Wyatt) brother Michel (Brenda),
all of Dorion, brother Marc (Laura) of Lake Helen, sister-in-law Janet of Thunder Bay and brother-in-law Len (Lori) of Dorion. Numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins, all special to him also survive as well as his little dog Bonnie who was so dear to his heart.
The family would like to thank Raymond, Darrell, the OPP and first responders for all their efforts to help Alain at the worksite. He died doing what he loves and he is now safe in God’s hands. He was a good man, was much loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Arrangements are in the care of Harbourview Funeral Centre. Due to Covid 19, a service will be held at a later date when restrictions are lifted.
