It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Alan Hyslop on March 6, 2022 at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. He was born on September 13, 1941. Alan spent the majority of his career working in the bush and was employed by Great Lakes Forest Products and Sturgeon Timber. Alan or Big Al, was also known by his trucking radio handle, Banjo. Alan enjoyed his daily morning coffee meetings at Agostino’s with his buddies.
Alan was happiest when he was in the bush. He loved spending time camping and quadding at Wolf River Park and Max Lake. Alan and his brother-in-law Joe Gagliardi spent many hours exploring the bush at Max Lake, hunting, travelling to Vegas for NASCAR events, watching the Leafs, and debating life and solving world problems. Alan always had time for his family; he will be fondly remembered for the backyard ice rinks he built, games of kick the can and cribbage and his willingness to go for ice cream anytime. He was always smiling, had an infectious laugh, and was genuinely one of the kindest people that those close to him had the honour to meet.
Alan will be lovingly remembered by Mary, his wife of over 40 years, his 3 children Barbara (David) Dubois, John Hyslop (Racquel), Donna Hyslop (Jay), as well as his 2 children by marriage, Rick Tiihonen (Lorraine) and Aaron (Hope) Tiihonen, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Alma (Gary) Baumback, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
At his request, no service will be held. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Alan’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
