Albert Bird, age 77 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, May 14, 2015.

Born in Hearst, Ontario on March 30, 1938, Albert grew up in Longlac and Constance Lake. As a teenager, he worked for Kimberley-Clark and at age 20, he moved to Chicago, Illinois.  In 1988, he moved to Thunder Bay where he worked for Apex Security.  A fan of Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Bears, Albert enjoyed walks and drives in the country, picking blueberries, travelling throughout North America, horse racing and country and western music.  Attending powwows where he would often sell crafts and a favourite breakfast at JJ’s were enjoyed too. His greatest achievement, though, was becoming a father, raising his grandchildren Belinda, Janessa, Melodina and Martina Wesley with wife Elizabeth, and then later getting to be a proud great grandfather.

Albert was a kind, respectful, gentle and loving man who was always humble and happy with a good sense of humour.  He was our rock.  Albert will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Elizabeth of 28 years; son David Moonias; daughter Lisa Wesley; grandchildren Belinda, Janessa, Martina, Melodina, Kyleen and Christina; great grandchildren Lierra, Current, Roland, Cedar, Darayne and Tianna; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his parents James and Elizabeth (nee Spence) Bird; brothers George and Joe; sisters Alice and Margaret; and numerous cousins from Thunder Bay and Longlac.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Mr. Victor and Maureen Pelletier of St. Anne’s Church.  Beginning one hour prior to the service, friends may visit with the family.  Services will conclude in the chapel with cremation to follow.  Albert was a supporter of many charities over the years, and so donations in his memory may be made to George Jeffrey Children’s Centre, Sick Kids Foundation, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre – Northern Cancer, or a charity of your choice.
