With broken hearts, we announce that our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Alexander “Hammy” Ernest Hamilton, age 81 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in TBRHSC, on Friday, October 18th, 2024.

Alexander was born in Fort William on January 21st , 1943, to Alexander “Sandy” and Ada May (nee Stewardson) Hamilton. He was educated locally and worked at Great Lakes Paper mill for many years retiring from the Finishing Room at the age of 55. He met Donna Jennings and they were married on November 20th, 1965, building a beautiful, loving life together. Hammy and Donna’s life revolved around the love and dedication they had for their children and family. Together, they enjoyed; camping, family BBQ’s on the deck, cards, Hagi TV Bingo and their Friday night date nights at the Westfort Prosvita (a lifetime member) or the Branch 6 Legion. For those who knew Hammy, knew he was an avid fisherman/hunter and had an extreme love for the outdoors and for his friends who joined him on the adventures. His personality shined bright; he had a gentle and calm demeanor, but always knew how to make the crowd laugh with his quick and witty jokes. His personality, laughter and kindness will be deeply missed by his family and friends. However, the memories of Hammy will live forever in their hearts, as well as in the quiet, peaceful outdoors where he loved to be.

Alex will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Donna Hamilton (nee Jennings); daughters Shelley Prystanski and Stacey Hamilton; brother-in-law George Jennings (Moe); grandchildren Ryley Melnychuk (Marlo), Keltie Ford (Joe), Chelsea Hamilton (Alex), Kortnie MacLeod, and Hayley Hamilton (Justin) and great grandchildren Mercedes, Nash, Isla, Hunter and Lily, whom he loved each so dearly and unconditionally. Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive.

He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Sheri Hamilton; parents, Sandy and Ada Hamilton, mother-in-law and father-in-law Dolly and Ken Jennings, sister Sandra Qualie and brother-in-law Donald Jennings.

A service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
