When all my labours and trials are o’er and I am safe on that beautiful shore. Just to be near the dear Lord I adore, will through the ages be glory for me.
Alfred Gilbert Niemi, age 90 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, went home to glory Sunday evening October 24, 2021.
Alf is survived by his wife of 63 yeas, Aino and by his two daughters, Debbie and Wendy. Also survived by sons-in-law, David Saunders and David Traintinger; six grandchildren: Tiffany (Rob), Candace (Jeremy) Hetz, Joshua (Terrilynn) Saunders, Meagan (Kyle) Lemieux, David (Rebecca) Traintinger, Mark (Hallie); fifteen great grandkids: Jordan and Morgan Skoluda, Austen, Jude, London and Piper Hetz, Peyton, Quinn, Kai, and Elijah Saunders, Everett, Jared, Jake, and Izzy Lemieux, and Drake Traintinger. Alf is survived by his two sisters, Helga Savioja, Bertha Peritalo, and nephew Ilmo Savioja.
At an early age Alf worked in the forest industry as a scaler in Auden. While working at a sawmill in Red Rock, an accident from rolling logs destroyed his right arm. Alf learned to do anything possible with only one arm, from simple tasks, to such things as tying shoe laces, to large construction and mechanical projects. Alfred worked for the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital in stores as a purchasing agent until he retired. Alfred was best known for his love for others through his witnessing for Jesus and his desire to tell them about God’s love for mankind.
